How To Listen To Audio Books

I absolutely love a good story. There is something so truly magical and captivating about being transported to a whole new world. And when it comes to the movie vs book debate, I think there’s a clear and obvious winner.

No movie can ever pack and cram in all the important details that you get from a book.

However, life now more than ever, is busy and chaotic, and honestly, I just don’t tend to find the time to sit down and read like I used to be able to. And for a while, I was really sad and disappointed to have to give up something that was such a passion for me.

That was until I was introduced to audiobooks.

Audiobooks have been around for a pretty long time, but I’d just never really thought about them. But with the technology that is around at the moment, listening to an audiobook has never been simpler.

And it’s the perfect solution for me. I can pop my audiobook on as I go for a run, on the commute to work, when I pick the kids up from school, in the bath, in long queues…the possibilities are endless.

But it means that I can get my story fix in scenarios that I just wouldn’t be able to pop out a paperback novel

They are also a great option for those that struggle with reading but enjoy stories. Whatever your reason, we can all agree that audiobooks are just generally great. That is if you know how to listen to them.

And if you don’t know how, you need to! And that’s why in this article, I’ll talk you through exactly how to do so.

Where To Get Audiobooks & How To Listen

If you have any kind of smart device, you can get an audiobook. Whether you have a mobile phone, a tablet, a laptop, a desktop, or even a smartwatch, you’ll be able to download an audiobook and listen to it.

As long as you have an Apple or Android device where you have access to an app store, you’ll be good to go.

Amazon’s Audible

How It Works: Amazon Audible has thousands of audible books on offer virtually providing that you have downloaded the app. From there it is your choice whether you would prefer to make a one-time purchase on a particular book or would like to set up a monthly subscription.

There is plenty of variety, from self-help books to autobiographies, to fiction, they have it all.

Getting Started: If you opt for a one-time purchase, you’ll just need to browse through the categories until you find the book you’d like to listen to, you can then purchase the book and once it’s downloaded you can hit play.

In terms of subscriptions, you’ll have two options; Audible Plus or Audible Premium Plus. Both offer a 30-day free trial so you can get a feel for the membership and see if it’s for you. Once your trial is over you’ll be paying upwards of $8 a month.

With the standard membership, you’ll have a selection of content to choose from, while with the premium option you’ll have the same content selection along with one book per month that can be chosen from the entire content Audible has to offer.

Premium Members also get a 30% discount on all premium titles.

Scribd books, Audiobooks, And Magazines.

How It Works: With Scribd, you’ll have access to over 1 million e-books and more than 200,000 audiobooks. All you’ll need to do is download the Scribd app.

The app has also recently introduced a premium option that gives you access to other premium services such as Peak Pro and FarFaria. The only downside is there is no option to purchase certain titles, but given the huge selection, this tends not to be a massive issue.

Getting Started: Scribd offers a 30-day free trial that is easy to cancel should you wish to. Once the trial ends you’ll pay $12 a month for your membership.

Apple Books Audiobooks

How It Works: With apple, you won’t have the option of a subscription, but you can purchase any title that you wish. The library is incredibly easy to navigate and browsing categories is an absolute breeze.

The prices for the books will vary from book to book, though Apple does often introduce discounts and there are some free options available too.

This is perfect for those who want to listen to specific books, but for those that can absolutely blitz through their stories, this may be a slightly more expensive option.

Final Thoughts

For those with busy lives or those who struggle to sit and read a paperback, I cannot recommend using this option enough. We shouldn’t have to compromise on the things that we love and this is the perfect solution.

They are so immersive and they really can transport you to a new and exciting world in the same way that a physical copy can. So whether you want to get lost in an 18th Century romance or you want to jump forward 300 years into the future, you can.

The reading and they really are just amazing. And it’s so easy to do! All you need to do is download the necessary app, and follow the instructions to set up an account, and just like that, you’re ready to browse the wonderful world of fiction and non-fiction.

I would recommend Apple Audiobooks for those who have a particular story in mind that they really want to listen to.

However, if you tend to fly through your stories and are quite the avid reader, then you may be better opting for one of the subscriptions as that will be much more cost effective for you in the long run.
